Decision on church buildings
At its meeting on 22nd June, the Kirk Session decided, after much discussion, to keep the buildings of both Trinity and Old and St. Paul’s for the foreseeable future. This is the very firm recommendation which the Kirk Session will now take to Presbytery.
The Kirk Session has remitted to the Working Group the task of investigating whether or not it would be possible to build a new building somewhere in Galashiels. That would be a long term project, and the Working Group will be looking into that.
When the social distancing rules allow us to come together in one church to worship, we will worship in Trinity and Old Parish and St. Paul’s alternately.
We are working with the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland, and with our architect, to attract a Housing Association to build sheltered housing on the St. John’s site, and for the church to have some premises on the site.
If you have any questions or comments, please share them with one of our three Joint Session Clerks. The matter of what the refurbishment will involve has now been remitted to the Working Group, and, assuming that Presbytery approves this plan, will be brought to the congregation for discussion and debate.
The Nominating Committee will soon be starting its work of finding a new minister for Galashiels Church of Scotland, and everyone is asked to pray for the work of the Nominating Committee.
